New Customs Rules 2026: What Exporters Need to Prepare

The government will officially implement new customs rules in the third quarter of 2026. This rule requires exporters to include additional documents in the Export Declaration. This policy is part of the government's efforts to improve the transparency of international trade data and strengthen supervision over strategic export goods.

Some things that need to be prepared include more detailed certificates of origin and specific sustainability reports for natural commodities. These reports must detail the carbon footprint and the company's compliance with global environmental standards.

This change aims to improve transparency and streamline the flow of goods at international ports. In addition, this step is expected to boost the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the global market, which is now increasingly strict in applying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.

For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the government has provided a special portal to facilitate the adaptation process to this new rule. Exporters are urged to immediately update their administrative systems to avoid delivery delay sanctions and to attend socialization sessions held by local Customs.
